Senior Backend Software Engineer (Java)
We are looking for inventive and passionate Senior Software Engineers who want to be part of a growing technology team. We are looking for people who can enhance a text Search service that manages nearly 1.5 billion text documents. This is one of our core services, which powers nearly every product we offer.
Responsibilities
As part of a diverse, international, Agile software team, you will analyze requirements, design, implement, test and maintain our shared platform in a highly collaborative environment.
Lead technical discussions about technology, infrastructure and evaluate technology choices based on value, scalability, maintainability and project delivery goals.
Support Dow Jones technical cultural values and drive toward solutions independently, looking for feedback when appropriate.
Maintain and share knowledge in the latest technologies in the industry.
Prioritize and manage work, following important project timelines.
Required Skills & Experience
5+ years of experience developing applications with Java version 8 and upwards
5+ years of experience in Linux/Unix
Understand Computer Science fundamentals including service-oriented architecture, cloud computing and behavior-driven development
Speak and write using business-level English
Exposure to Docker, public Cloud (AWS, Google Cloud, etc..), or container-based application deployment strategies is a plus
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with text search technology
Observability driven development experience
Computer Science or equivalent degree
Experience using NoSQL databases
Good understanding of XML, Xquery, JSON and database technologies
Experience building performant and scalable REST APIs
Experience with modern software construction technologies (e.g., AWS, Terraform, Chef, Docker, Jenkins, New Relic, OpsGenie, etc.)
Experience developing software in C++ and SQL, a plus
Experience building and deploying microservices a plus
