Dow Jones Program Director, Experimentation in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

Dow Jones seeks a program and project management professional to accelerate the momentum of our customer-facing experimentation efforts.

What will you do?

You will manage the in-sourcing of Dow Jones’ experimentation program from an outside vendor to an internal team, and promote continuous improvement and efficient operation of those activities on an ongoing basis. Responsibilities include:

  • Project validation – Implement and improve a consistent framework for fielding, evaluating and prioritizing requests and ideas

  • Discovery/definition – Help product managers build better backlogs which capture our ambition in sufficient detail for high-level estimation

  • Alignment with business goals – Ensure we have clearly-established hypotheses, KPIs, SMART goals, definitions of success/failure for our tests

  • Effective delivery – Partner with engineering leadership to balance customer needs, resource capabilities, project schedules and technical constraints

  • Continuous improvement – Develop measures to continuously gauge progress and collaborate with product leadership on action plans for growth

  • Thought leadership – Provide ongoing mentoring and constructive feedback, facilitating the Agile process, empowering delivery teams and providing guidance across multi-disciplinary functions

What do you bring: skills and aptitudes

  • Strong collaborative instincts and interpersonal skills; must enjoy and work well with a wide variety of stakeholders in a complex organization

  • Exceptional written and oral communication

  • Excellent understanding of software development life cycle models and the tools and techniques used in digital product development

  • An understanding of the scientific process and ability to lead your teams in conducting experiments and collecting data for objective decision-making

  • Strong analytical, strategic, and creative problem-solving capabilities with the aptitude to identify KPIs and gather and analyze data

  • Flexible and pragmatic about methods and processes, and able to use your judgment to apply the model and approach that fit best with the context

  • Prior experience in Google Analytics, Adobe Analytics, or another major analytics platform to gather, sort, analyze, and action data

  • Proven ability to stand up complex operational processes, preferably related to product management; experimentation even better!

  • Effective at managing upwards

How much experience should you have?

  • 5-7 years of digital product experience

  • 3+ years of supervisory / people management
