Dow Jones SEO Data Analyst in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

You will play a key role as part of the Technical SEO team for some of the world’s leading publications

across Dow Jones brands including The Wall Street Journal, Marketwatch, and Barrons, working hand in hand with the Technical SEO Manager for Dow Jones, Newsrooms, Product, Engineering, and Data teams.

Our team drives the loyalty, engagement, and expansion of our audiences – the lifeblood of any news organization – sitting at the intersection between marketing, editorial, customer insights, tech, and product.

Understanding how content travels and how we maximize the visibility of our content in search through data analysis will be the cornerstone of your work. From this, you will derive rich and actionable insights in the form of reports and dashboards, that inform our product direction, business, and editorial strategies.

Focused on growth, and constant monitoring and optimization, you are goal-oriented, possess exceptional attention to detail, and have good communication skills. You will ultimately aid our award-winning content to be discoverable in the digital world.

You can analyze data including Search, Crawl, and Analytics, and help develop dashboards to better understand trends, audits, and traffic. Having a strong understanding of Web Analytics and the ability to code in SQL with BigQuery and Python, may make you just the candidate we’re looking for.

Responsibilities :

  • Work directly with the Technical SEO Manager to help Tech and Newsroom SEO teams, Product, Membership, and Events teams analyze data from our analytics platforms.

  • Help develop in-house tools, dashboards using APIs, scripts, and apps to integrate SEO and Traffic data across platforms.

  • Analyze web and app traffic analytics, and generate reports to help business units understand trends and patterns in traffic and SEO.

  • Assist in Keyword Analysis for SEO meta tags when required.

  • Assist with interpreting Technical SEO audits across WSJ.com.

  • Help produce SEO documentation for up-to-date SEO recommendations and training alongside the Technical SEO Manager and Newsroom SEO team based upon the findings in your data.

Required Experience:

  • BA/BS in Data Analytics, Data Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or relevant field with a strong understanding of Data Science, Analytics, SEO, and Organic Search.

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in Data Analysis, Analytics, Data Science, Python Scripts; a background in SEO would be an advantage.

  • Strong analytical proficiency and knowledge using Adobe Analytics and Google Analytics would be a bonus.

  • Able to develop scripts (i.e: python or javascript) to query APIs and deal with a diversity of data types and response endpoints. We often work with APIs from Google Search Console, Google Trends, as well as third parties like Crux or New Relic.

  • You enjoy data visualization and making large sets of data more digestible, and are accustomed to using Google Data Studio to visualize the data as dashboards or reports.

  • You are able to identify growth opportunities and draw recommendations using large data sets.

  • Detail-oriented, enjoy the nitty-gritty of preparing regular and ad-hoc reporting.

  • Ability to help code and deploy web tools, apps, dashboards, and reports a bonus.

  • Knowledge of basic web design principles and technologies, and their SEO implications

  • Working knowledge of Databases like Google BigQuery and possibly AWS Redshift, and being able to code SQL is second nature to you.

  • A general understanding of search engine best practices, ranking factors, SEO techniques, and search algorithms.

  • Experience working with a CMS like WordPress and the Yoast SEO plugin for WordPress is a bonus.

  • Strong experience with Google Suite such as Google Sheets, Slides, Doc, etc.

Preferred Experience

  • An understanding of a webpage’s basic code building blocks such as XML, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Meta Data.

  • Experience working with SEO Tools such as Botify, SEMrush, Screaming Frog, and their APIs is a bonus.

  • Familiar with GitHub repos, and local app development using Mamp or similar.

  • A general understanding of the principles around paywalled content for online news.

  • Some knowledge around Google AMP.

  • Understanding of basic principles of SEO in terms of web Optimization and Pagespeed.
