Dow Jones Sr. Software Development Engineer - Android (NYC/ Remote) in NEW YORK, New York

Job Description:

The Team: The Wall Street Journal is one of the biggest news media with 2.8 million copies published everyday. The newspaper has won 37 Pulitzer Prizes and millions of subscribers rely on this trustworthy news source. WSJ together with Barrons, Financial News, and MarketWatch are the premium brands of Dow Jones.

The mobile team is building the next-generation of mobile apps for all of these brands and the apps will be delivered to millions of subscribers around the world. Our mission is to build a world class news consumption experience for our loyal readers. This is a fast growing team that plays an important role together with the newsroom, designers, CMS, backend teams, subscription and growth teams.

The Right Person: You have potential and are impactful. You are passionate about technology, user experience and story telling. You take challenges and are always eager to learn new technologies and try to solve difficult problems. You strive to solve these problems in a scalable, reusable fashion.

You are also highly focused as a front end engineer, with strong hands-on native mobile experience. You can lead technical conversations, creating a strategic plan and leading that plan through execution. You are someone who frequently takes the lead on important projects and you are committed to working within thoughtful team processes.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Two years of Android native Mobile development experience. Kotlin or JPC is preferred.

  • Familiar with data structure, system design, design patterns, API designs, MVC or MVVM, react, declarative UI, Git, and DevOps.

  • Full stack background is a huge plus. Familiarity with cloud services, GraphQL, Firebase, etc is a plus.

  • A passion for news and creativity to introduce new ideas and technologies. If you have a background in journalism, even better!

NYC Pay Range: $40,000 - $160,000
