Dow Jones seeks an experienced Technical Product Manager who is as comfortable presenting solutions to clients as s/he is debating technical trade-offs with software developers. This unique role requires hands-on troubleshooting and solution engineering on one hand and an entrepreneurial approach to achieving commercial outcomes on the other.
In this role, you will be expected to:
Lead and manage the development of multiple digital products and features on behalf of Wall Street Journal | Barron’s Group advertising clients.
Scope and define web platform migrations and front-end redesigns for key clients.
Translate commercial needs for technology leads and accurately relay feedback from architects and engineering directors to broker efficient compromises.
Work with account management and sales teams, engineers, data analysts, designers and other partners to understand client objectives, recommend product solutions and rationalize strategies with time and budget constraints.
Communicate clear, concise requirements and write user stories that unambiguously present acceptance criteria (i.e. what success looks like).
Confidently triage and troubleshoot operational issues.
Authoritatively address customer feedback, explaining why your products work the way they do and proposing practical solutions to close perceived gaps in functionality.
Develop strong relationships with stakeholders and promote data-driven decisions to drive business results that have impact now and into the future.
Ideal candidates will have these skills and qualifications:
5+ years experience working with large-scale, consumer-facing websites—ideally in client-facing roles, whether at a digital agency or media company.
Detail-oriented with excellent organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent troubleshooter with an intuitive understanding of web applications.
Able to retrieve, review and understand system logs, content feeds, etc. and quickly diagnose what component of a workflow or process is causing unexpected outcomes.
Able to comfortably and confidently interact with diverse (technical and non-technical) audiences, spanning all levels of organizational seniority.
Firm sense of accountability and ownership of product success.
Familiar with the role of a Product Owner in the Agile software development lifecycle.
Able to think critically and constructively about complex business problems, clearly communicate your analyses and present solutions that address business needs.
Able to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
Diplomatic, with a knack for synthesizing and prioritizing stakeholder requests.
Demonstrated ability to use persuasion, rather than authority, to resolve disagreements.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience preferred.
Familiarity with the Gutenberg block editor for WordPress will be helpful.
Genuinely exhibit Dow Jones’ core values: trust, curiosity, and humility.
