Reporting to the SVP, Data engineering within the Data Engineering group, this position will work closely with all groups within the Technology organization. Candidates for this role will need demonstrated experience in cloud-based technologies and data architecture. A strong focus on data quality is also required for success in this role.
Specific responsibilities include:
Manage and continue to evolve a world-class data engineering function utilizing cloud-based technologies
Provide architecture support for both cloud-based applications and to migrate on premise solutions
Follow an air-tight quality control process to the integrity of incoming and outgoing feeds
Work with stakeholders to define priorities and new tasks for the data engineering team.
Work to define new features for all lines-of-business
Monitor a 3 petabyte Data Lake identifying risks and required infrastructure changes to remedy issues.
Identify potential blockers and dependencies of data engineering activities with other teams (external teams, front-end, dev-ops and QA)
Propose new strategies to improve the quality of the data and overall code base
Propose new strategies to improve the stability of the real-time pipelines and batch processes
Propose changes in code, infrastructure and architecture to optimize the latency of the pipeline and reduce infrastructure costs.
Keep track of tech-debt in data engineering so it can be addressed in tandem with new development
Produce operational metrics to measure throughput and to build scale within a growing organization
Identify opportunities to enhance targeting/segmentation capabilities.
Manage current vendors and selection of new vendors
12+ years experience in Data Engineering
7+ years leading multi-layered teams
Experience with real-time technologies (Kinesis, Kafka) a must
Deep knowledge of the cloud computing industry a must
Deep experience with Agile development methodology
Strong coding experience necessary in SQL, Python or equivalent
Experience managing off-site teams a must
Management of 10 or more employees required
ETL experience with cloud-based or traditional tools needed
AWS experience required
Quality Assurance orientation a definite must
Publishing industry experience desired
Strong written and oral communications needed
Knowledge of subscription marketing needed
