Dow Jones Lead Software Engineer, QA in PRINCETON, New Jersey

Job Description:

Dow Jones is also leading its own transformation of the media business by investing in industry-leading advertising experiences that drive performance for our advertisers by combining machine learning algorithms with unique rich media executions that are a first in the industry..

We are seeking to hire a Lead Software Engineer to join the Dow Jones Consumer Quality Engineering team to adapt and implement Quality Engineering processes for our web, backend and mobile applications. This position is responsible for providing QA support for new/existing products maintained/developed by the audio/video and user services engineering team. Responsibilities include planning and executing tests and communicating results to engineering, product, and design teams as appropriate. A part of the role will be to develop strategies for improving the coverage and speed of test cycle execution through effective use of tools including automation and analysis tools. Must be detail oriented, analytical and creative problem solver with passion for quality processes and ability to document clearly and thoroughly.


  • Follow Quality Engineering processes and procedures defined in the organization

  • Enhance/Optimize CI/CD pipeline with automation, performance and accessibility tests.

  • Proactively suggest improvements to the overall testing infrastructure and methodologies.

  • Liaise with internal teams (i.e. Developers, Project Managers, and Senior Management) to identify system requirements

  • Design and implement tests; Monitor the debugging process and define corrective actions

  • Review requirements, specifications and technical design documents; provide timely and meaningful feedback

  • Create detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases

  • Estimate, prioritize, plan and coordinate testing activities

  • Design, develop and execute automation scripts

  • Manage automation jobs in CI/CD pipeline for every PR and nightly regression runs

  • Review daily automation run reports and take actions accordingly on any failures

  • Identify, record, document and track bugs

  • Perform thorough regression testing when bugs are resolved

  • Measure the test effectiveness by utilizing metrics and produce reports by fostering transparency and accountability

Experience and Capabilities:

  • 6+ years of functional and end-to-end testing (Web, Audio/Video content, Mobile, API and Databases) experience.

  • 2+ years of automation experience with any open source frameworks.

  • Proficient with Quality and Software Engineering practices in an agile environment.

  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

  • Good knowledge on Cloud technologies like AWS.

  • Knowledge on JavaScript is preferred, or other programming language

  • Experience with testing API using Postman or similar tools

  • Experience with Swagger or similar tools

  • Experience with performance testing using Jmeter or similar tools

  • Experience with visual and accessibility testing

  • Experience using JIRA, Zephyr, Confluence and BrowserStack
