Dow Jones Lead Software Engineer - Remote Considered in PRINCETON, New Jersey

Job Description:

Dow Jones is seeking a creative and passionate engineer to join a newly formed team, creating game-changing software as part of a strategic initiative with high visibility and growth. Dow Jones brands such as the Wall Street Journal, Barron's and MarketWatch.com are a trusted source of Market Data content for investors. In this role you will scale Market Data content and capabilities for all Dow Jones consumer customers under a unified platform. The team's goal is to harness the latest financial markets information to expand our web content that engages our customers habitually to help them make informed investment decisions. The platform approach allows us to deliver robust market data experiences across all our brands in a timely and effective way.

Our engineers play a critical role in all stages of the product life cycle, so we look for people who crave ownership, collaborate across the business, and think strategically to solve difficult problems. This role requires strong communication and a passion for investment information or eagerness to learn. History of working with a variety of tech stacks, leading other teammates, and a proven record of collaborating across departments do deliver platform solutions are a must. You will collaborate on technology decisions across the company to help champion best practices around architecture, infrastructure, testing, and code design.

Responsibilities

  • As part of a cross-functional agile software team, you will design, implement, and maintain our web applications in a highly collaborative environment.

  • Participate and lead technical discussions about technology, infrastructure and consider the pros/cons of a technology choice based on business value, scalability, maintainability and project delivery performance.

  • Support Dow Jones technical cultural values and are capable of driving toward solutions independently, and seeking feedback when appropriate.

  • Maintain and share knowledge in emerging technologies and tools in the industry.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment.

Skills & Experience

  • 6+ years total experience in Software Engineering, preferably in web application development

  • Proficient in .NET, C# preferred

  • Javascript

  • React

  • Node.js

  • Cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Google Cloud Projects (GCP)

  • Experience with data visualization libraries

  • Experience with web components

  • Understanding of microservices or service-oriented architecture

  • Experience working with both technical and product stakeholders, and leading technical deliveries across business units

  • Experience leading a team of engineers towards best practices and solutions

  • Knowledge of basic design and UX principles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with CI/CD technologies such as Jenkins, Google Cloud Build or TeamCity

  • Queueing technologies such as ZeroMQ

  • Experience with distributed caching technologies

  • Exposure to Docker, Elastic Beanstalk or other cloud/container based application deployment

NYC Pay Range: $50,000 - $180,000
