Having just recently announced the formation of the DataSET (Science, Engineering and Transformation) team, we are already looking to expand. We’re looking for a technical program manager who can support the delivery of data-driven projects and initiatives across the WSJ Membership, News and Opinion teams.

You will report to the VP, Data Solutions within Data Transformation team, and will be responsible for building data-driven solutions to aid the WSJ Membership, News and Opinion teams in their strategic efforts. In particular, you will be asked to develop an execution framework that delivers data-driven solutions by organizing and tracking cross-functional work efforts of engineering, produce, and operations colleagues.To do this job, you’ll need to be:

  • An excellent communicator – acting as a Technical Program Manager you will be the bridge between the business and engineering arms of the organization. You must be able to communicate highly-technical details to business stakeholders, and phrase business goals in technical terms. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.

  • Technical – you won’t only be communicating back and forth, but often will be part of building data-driven solutions yourself. Familiarity with software engineering is necessary, and experience with data-related software engineering (e.g. Python, R, SQL, etc) is preferred.

  • A team player – although the bulk of your work will revolve around the WSJ teams needs, you must be ready, willing, and able to support other Dow Jones entities.

  • Display a data-driven, systematic mindset that prefers measurable outcomes to hyperboles.

  • Have a minimum of three years’ experience working at the intersection of business and data with a technology focus.

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Proactively support DataSET services and maintain knowledge of all DataSET data platforms/assets (ADW, CDP, DASH, EDW).

  • Support data creation, collection and compliance efforts by creating data requirements and technical specifications

  • Support prioritization & specification of new requests by collaborating across DataSET teams to define the tech level of effort for new initiatives

  • Establishing and owning a portfolio of data driven projects and initiatives that power the WSJ teams by integrating data solutions into their development roadmaps.

  • Developing a roadmap that delivers data solutions by organizing and tracking cross-functional work efforts of engineering, product and operations colleagues.

  • Defining, reviewing and gaining delivery commitment on user stories, technical specifications and non-functional requirements that describe the tech solutions

  • Steering program delivery and coordinating required team workshops, meetings and status updates to senior management

Here are some things that we'd prefer to see, though none is independently a requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Training or equivalent experience in data analytics methodologies and/or technologies

  • Experience as tech project, product or program manager within Agile/SCRUM enterprise-scale software development environments.
