Senior Software Engineer, C#/.NET/.NET Core and SQL Server
Do you like building scalable, realtime, resilient applications in the cloud computing environment? Dow Jones, leading provider of news and information, is looking for a Senior Software Engineer who has a passion for building cutting edge mission-critical software solutions. You will join the Engineering team that is part of the Professional Information Business (PIB / B2B) product line within Dow Jones, and will be working on creating and deploying microservices hosted on a Service Mesh on AWS. The team projects use edge technologies and modern practices, including but not limited to:
C# .NET with frameworks up to .NET Core 3.1 and .NET 5/6
Cloud with AWS
Microservices on a Service Mesh using Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, Istio, Envoy, Jaeger, Prometheus, Grafana
RESTful APIs following JSON:API standard
Multi-region, multi-environment CI/CD using Jenkins & Terraform, with support for Disaster Recovery
MS SQL Server, MySQL/Aurora, DynamoDB
Unit tests with nUnit/Moq, Integration Tests, BDD
Source Control with Git & GitFlow
Site Reliability Engineering - Logging, Monitoring, Alerting
Agile development following SCRUM methodology
Your responsibilities:
Identify and define solutions to business requirements and deliver state-of-the-art implementations in the form of application design, development and support
Design, code, upgrade, test (incl. automated unit, functional, smoke & performance testing), debug, document, integrate and maintain applications, application components and common services adhering to our SDLC best practices and guidelines
Make use of application design, development and maintenance standards including the use of standard languages and tools
Develop productivity skills by learning source control, editors, the build system, and other tools as well as testing best practices
Understand and practice Agile software development following SCRUM methodology.
Participate in business analysis, systems analysis/consulting, and systems design
Provide advice, guidance, training and support to junior developers, business and information technology users, business partners, and management
Lead technical discussions about architecture, infrastructure and frameworks and drive effective technical decisions covering their areas of responsibility
Establish intensive communication and good relationship with the team members and stakeholders, empower the team, lead by example and contribute to others’ and own career development
Promote the company culture, enforce the company standards and support the modernization and expansion processes
Core requirements for the position:
Excellent verbal & written skills to interact, build and maintain effective relationships with peers in both English and Bulgarian language via a diversity of communication channels like email, chat, meetings, scrum boards, wiki pages etc.
Strong analytical, problem-solving and programming skills, with high responsibility and care of the details. Ability to get a clear understanding of the requirements and work with the business to implement the best possible solutions.
Ability to identify and isolate problem areas within the entire application flow and to investigate the root cause and implement solutions.
Self-organized, working well independently and in a geographically diverse team environment in a collaborative fashion.
Initiative person with a positive mindset, creative thinking, adaptive to workflow changes and with a strive to keep his/her expertise up-to-date
Ability to design a good architecture for a new project as well as migration of legacy projects to new architecture. Produce and maintain proper documentation.
Ability to identify tech debts and code smells while working on a project and to take steps to reduce them.
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
Required Skills/Experience:
Developer with strong 5+ years of experience building high-performance client/server and web applications using Microsoft C# .NET/.NET Core
Hands-on application troubleshooting and debugging skills, including usage of tools such as Visual Studio debugger
Strong Backend development with experience in RESTful API design, development & support
Strong experience with JSON and XML data interchange formats. XSL & XSLT are a plus.
Database development experience with RDBMS/SQL (3+ years), including stored procedures, triggers, functions, and TSQL. Knowledge of transactions and data normalization. Knowledge of ORMs such as Dapper, EF or similar.
Strong Object Oriented Design and Programming skills for designing, building and maintaining clean, readable, efficient, reusable, and reliable C# code
Experience writing unit and functional tests
Source control experience with Git. Knowledge of GitFlow is a plus.
Nice to have:
Cloud development and migration with AWS (preferably), Azure, GCP etc.
Experience with current development technologies, methodologies and workflows including CI/CD, Agile development (Scrum, JIRA), Jenkins, Artifactory, Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, Grafana, Prometheus.
Experience developing Microservices
Experience in optimizing SQL queries/procedures
Knowledge or experience with GRPC communication
Experience with Linux-based systems
Basic knowledge of building UI and frameworks such as ReactJS or similar
